Why We Love Westchester County

Why We Love Westchester County

No matter what the time of year, there’s always something going on in Westchester County. The area offers a variety of hotels, so whether you’re a large family on a budget or a couple looking for a weekend getaway, it’s easy to stop in and see what’s so great about the area. Westchester county is also a great place to buy a home and raise a family. Here are a few reasons why we chose to lay down roots in this area (and help you lay down yours, too!)

1. Go to the Rockefeller Home

You might not have any industrial capitalist blood, but it’s still interesting to see how the other half (or 1%) lives. The legendary family’s Beaux-Arts style mansion lays nestled in the Pocantico Hills, which provides unrivaled views of the Hudson River. The home offers mini tours for those with short attention spans, but the 3 hour Grand Tour is the way to go if you have time to spare. The home also functions as a museum, with rare pieces from the Tang Dynasty and original pieces from Warhol, Picasso, and more.

2. Greenburgh Nature Center

Great for people of all ages, the Greenburgh Nature Center is a non-profit preserve that spreads over 33 acres in lower Westchester County. With environmental education initiatives for children and adults alike, anyone can find something to do here. Come explore the nature trails and Native American historical sites, or enjoy the outdoor exhibits and animals.

3. Canfin Gallery

If you’re looking to shop for contemporary or fine art, this Tarrytown gallery is the place to be. Home to the discerning collector or novice shopper, you’ll find something to suit any taste. If you don’t have the budget for original artwork, never fear – the Gallery also hosts exhibits and viewings throughout the year. A great way to experience the rich culture our area has to offer.

4. Eat, Drink, and Be Merry

Westchester county is home to some of the best cuisine in the nation. The farm to table movement is alive and well, with many area restaurants offering multiple course dinners. There are also restaurants to suit any taste, from Asian fusion to tapas, contemporary American to fine dining. Don’t forget to experiment and eat your way through the Hudson Valley – your taste buds will thank you!

5. Shopping

Westchester County also offers a variety of shopping to suit any budget. There are a number of upscale stores in The Galleria of White Plains and The Westchester, which have offerings like Gucci, Brooks Brothers, and Neiman Marcus. Valet parking and complimentary strollers are also available.

For those who prefer the bigger malls and lower price points, the Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers is your best bet. Enjoy an outdoor shopping experience complete with gardens and your favorite stores.

Westchester County truly has something for everyone. From shopping and dining, to enjoying the local culture and attractions, we know that you’ll love it here as much as we do.
