The city is surrounded by Bronxville, Tuckahoe, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, and Scarsdale, so residents can hop on the highway to get around the area and experience all it offers. Yonkers is very walkable and pedestrian-friendly, and the highly urban areas have the same atmosphere as the Bronx or Manhattan. The residential neighborhoods are filled with beautiful architecture, tree-lined streets, and meticulously maintained lawns. There are many shopping centers to enjoy all around the city, and there are always new businesses moving in. Residents of any Yonkers community will have easy access to everything they need. There are plenty of grocery stores, pharmacies, convenience stores, and more. Foodtown, Whole Foods, ShopRite, and CVS are all nearby. There are plenty of great restaurants for those who want to skip cooking dinner, including both locally-owned favorites and chain restaurants. A favorite of the kids in town is the Legoland Discovery Center, which has plenty of space to build and play, two rides, and a 4D cinema. The Yonkers School District serves the Beech Hill community. Schools in the neighborhood are Robert C Dodson School that serves kindergarten to grade eight students, and Roosevelt High School that serves students from grades nine to twelve.
